Quality
of Life Assets
Every
Individual has a unique set of assets that can be used to improve his/her
quality of life. Assets include but are not limited to:
-
Support
from family, friends, and
caregivers
-
Personal
boundaries and values
-
A
thirst for learning new skills
-
Self-confidence
-
Participation
in meaningful hobbies
-
Opportunities
for exploration and growth
-
Social
skills
-
Any
other qualities that help a person strengthen his/her quality of life.
As
we develop a Quality of Life Plan for an Individual, it is
important to identify his/her possibilities and
vulnerabilities. See the form entitled Assessment of the
Quality of Life Assets. This assessment
highlights a person's gifts toward building companionship and community.
Once we know where a person is in terms of feeling safe, engaged, and valued,
and returning valuing, then we know where to start the mutual change
process.
